Girona Airport

Girona Airport (GRO) is approximately 100 klm (65 miles) North East of Barcelona.  It has become more popular due to the low cost airlines that service the airport. Girona is also an ideal destination for travellers wishing to take a longer holiday in one of the neighbouring resorts such as: Tossa de Mar & Lloret de Mar or skiing breaks in the Pyrenees.

Although many of the low cost airlines advertise Girona or Gerona airport as Barcelona it takes at least 1hr 20mins to get to Barcelona by bus.

There are many different ways you can get to and from Girona airport and obviously it depends on your budget and the number of people traveling in your party.  The cheapest way to get to Barcelona from Girona airport is by bus.

Transfers From Girona Airport

You have a choice of transport from the airport.

Bus Transfer:  The bus is the easiest and cheapest way to get from the airport to Barcelona.  You can catch the bus outside the arrivals hall and  the buses that run to Barcelona, are usually scheduled to coinside with the flight times.  There is generally no problem with queing and there is no need to buy a ticket prior to boarding.

You can take a taxi from the airport to the centre of Barcelona and it will probably cost you 150 euros each way. So, a round trip can be somewhere in the region of 300 euros (an expensive trip!).  I would strongly recommend hiring a car, especially if there are a few of you, simply because it will be much cheaper than paying for a taxi and then you at least will have transport for the duration of your holiday.

The A7 motorway is only 5klm away from Girona airport , providing easy access to reached your required destination.

Buses run to and from the airport and provide a regular service to the nearby city of Girona which is approximately 15-20 klm away.

Transfers To And From Girona Airport

The most popular transfer from Girona airport is to the centre of Barcelona.  If you are flying into Girona airport with Ryan Air, you will have no problem connecting with one of the regular bus/coach services that run between the airport and Barcelona.   For every Ryan Air flight that lands in Girona, there is a generally a bus/coach that will transfer you to Barcelona.  Using the coach transfer, is probably the cheapest way to get to the centre of Barcelona and the journey time is approximately 1hour and 20 minutes.
